Tomorrow will be 6 weeks since Ben's 2 nodes first got infected. We are exhausted from watching them like hawks and he is SICK of us watching/feeling etc them too. He finished his last dose of antibiotics 2 days ago.....so he had been on those for almost 3 weeks.
They have gotten much smaller overall but have now become bright red. The ENT nailed it exactly when he told us what they would look like before they would need to be drained. We aren't sure if they are uncomfortable or painful b/c a 20 mth old can't really tell you. We watch for any sign that they might, but fortunately, they don't seems to bother him. We have been told that if he spikes a fever or the nodes become "mushy" to call b/c they will need to be removed fairly quickly. So this mommy (who borders on OCD about things like this) has been diligent to watch him. So far, they have softened, but aren't mushy.
Tomorrow, we see the ENT for the pre-op appointment and surgery is scheduled for Tuesday morning. Had Ben been older, we could have had surgery Friday, but 20 month olds can't be NPO that long.....can you imagine trying to explain to a toddler why they can't eat/drink til 1 pm!! Please pray that the nodes are stable and don't become mushy so that we don't have to go through the ER for surgery.
We are ready for our little man to be swollen node free!!
Our little trooper!!
