Look, Mom....No Hands!!!

Sitting.  We do it all the time.  We sit on the couch, in the car, at our desk at work, on a plane and at the table for dinner.  A simple position that we do without thinking.  But how to we learn to do it.  Is it taught to us?  Is it a natural progression of development?  Well, Ben has done it.  It started in our lap, then he moved to the infamous Bumbo seat.  About a month ago, he moved into "tri-pod" sitting.  In this position, he could balance and slowly move a hand free but play was nearly impossible.  Then, in the last week, independent/hands free sitting has been mastered.  He straightens his back and sits tall.  He reaches forward and to the side to his toys and brings them to his mouth.  He smiles and laughs and poses for pictures.  He now sits up and explores his world.  What an unbelievable accomplishment!  Little Ben is sitting....sitting all by himself.
