Ben's Nodes

For those who follow the blog, you probably have read about Ben and his 2 lymph nodes.  Long story short.....

Almost 3 weeks ago, I noticed a knot on his left neck....under his chin.  Then felt another in the same spot on the other side.  Raced to the AfterCare at Children's to be told that it is a virus and that the swollen lymph nodes will resolve but it will take a while.  After repeated visits to the ped office, and MANY MANY scary moments b/c of the tests they run to rule out other things, the knots have shrunk a good bit.  His blood work is good.  The scary tests all came back NEGATIVE!

About 1 week ago, I noticed some warmth and redness starting.  They were still small, but the heat and redness indicated a bacterial infection.  Sent to an ENT to look more closely, Ben has a bacterial infection....but one that is more resistance to antibiotics.  He is now on a double antibiotic treatment.
So, after seeing the ENT again yesterday.....
The goal.....shrink them down to nothing and avoid surgery altogether!!
If this doesn't work, Ben will have surgery to drain them.  The smaller and softer they are the better and easier it is to drain them.  Smaller incisions.  Smaller invasive procedure.

So, Friends, I am asking for you to say a little prayer for Ben and his nodes.  He feels fine....he hasn't ever felt sick.  That in itself is an answered prayer.  But, we want to avoid surgery if at all possible.  It isn't a long surgical procedure...they say about 30 minutes....but surgery in itself makes this mommy nervous.  Pray for the antibiotics to work.  Pray that the nodes will soften and shrink.  Pray that surgery isn't necessary.
