Reunion

After 5 nights in the hospital, Dad is home.  And we are so thankful that he is comfortably resting in his own environment.
This week, I was able to be off work and between my friend Lindsey and daycare, I have been able to spend such precious time with my Dad in his hospital room.  My mom and I surrounded him all week and gave him as many kisses and squeezes as possible.  One thing was missing.....Baby Ben.  A hospital is no place for a "almost 8 month old".  So, I was passing kisses to Dad for him.
He came off the IV meds yesterday and was able to be seizure free with the oral meds.  One of the hardest things is his struggle to swallow.  It is one of the things that has gotten progressively weaker in the last week.  He had a swallowing eval yesterday by the speech pathologist.  She said the key is to keep him comfortable.  Try soft foods....and if he wants dessert for dinner.....Go Right Ahead!
Because of the disease, one of the most difficult things for us has been his inability to talk.  And now, he struggles to nod.  He looks at us in the eye, but communication between us is little.  We now communicate our feelings with smiles and hugs and as many kisses as one can give.
He was transported home by ambulance.  Mom followed in her car.  I left the hospital, ran and got Ben, stopped by the pharmacy for his meds and then we were there with him too.  Mom, who has missed her little Ben so much, grabbed him up as soon as she saw him.  She took him over to Dad.  And there it was, as if no time and no disease was there.  Dad lifted his left hand up to Ben's and brought it to his mouth for a kiss.  Their connection has been miraculous.  Their love even more.  Ben and his G were reunited again.  As pure as it always has been.
