What do you get when you let 2 toddlers out of their strollers at the zoo? Well, how about 2 exhausted Mommies!!
My friend, Hillary, and her adorable Catherine met Ben, Abby and myself at the Birmingham Zoo this morning. The plan was to meet around 9 am, play/look around til 11, then feed the giraffes and head home in time for lunch and naps. Well, the plan sounded solid.....however, the kiddos had another thing in mind.
Monkeys, Elephant, Giraffes, Zebras, Hogs, (Feed Abby a bottle), Lions/Tigers.....so much to see!!!
Back to the Giraffes for the feeding. We buy our tickets and get in
line. It was quite the experience for both Mommy and Toddler. Giant
Giraffe and his giant purple tongue ready to snack on these little
treats. Catherine and Ben giggled as they watched their Mommies feed
them.
We stretched the kiddos about as far as we could with goldfish, teddy grahams, and juice, so it was time for lunch. Apparently 1145 is THE time to eat. We waited in a line that resembled "Batman" at Six Flags. Catherine went to sleep in her stroller, Ben snacked on yogurt raisins, and Abby just took it all in. We sat outside as our toddlers ate their yummy lunch and milk. Ben has pretty much mastered drinking w/out a straw....and both did well in the chairs. No boosters around so they were eye level with their lunch.
Off to play again!! The petting zoo was next. Ben was a bit apprehensive of the animals....Catherine was like a little farm girl. She reached her little hand in there with the hay and giggled as they ate. Ben stood back and was more entertained by the Christmas tree going up in the barn. A few pictures on the giant tractor later and our kiddos were past tired. Tears flowed as they were packed in their strollers and pushed back to the car. Abby had long since given up, and was snoozing before we even left.
What a fun fun day with friends!! 3 1/2 hours at the zoo made for some wonderful memories, fun pictures, sleepy kiddos, and EXHAUSTED Mommies!!
